A Heroes Homecoming for Vietnam Vets

Showcasing Helicopters and Army Artillery to Honor Vets. Check out the video for details!

It’s better late than never. Decades after the Vietnam War, veterans from around the area now have the opportunity to honor thousands of war heroes.

“This is a Hereos Homecoming event to welcome home the Vietnam veterans that never an appropriate welcome home when they returned back in the 60s ad 70s,” says Army Veteran George Williams.

Fayetteville, North Carolina is hosting a 10-day long celebration dedicated to the heroes of war in a homecoming event as a way of showing all Vietnam Veterans remembrance and appreciation of their courage. This week, the City of Fayetteville set up a display showcasing artillery used in Vietnam, including three historical helicopters.

In Vietnam scouts flew near tree line level looking for targets as two other helicopters flew much higher ready to fire.

Many vets gathered downtown to meet other military families, share stories and memories of war—some even looking for closure.

Army Vet Robert Smith says, “There are a lot of folks that come by and put their hands on the aircraft and say I remember this.”
