Army Exceeding Recruiting Goals So Far This Year

The Department of Defense on Wednesday released its recruiting numbers through July. So far this year, the Army is on track to exceed its goal.

The Department of Defense on Wednesday announced its recruiting and retention numbers for Fiscal 2011 through the month of July. All four branches of active service are meeting their goals, according to an DoD press release -- with the active Army on track to exceed its numbers, although National Guard recruitments are slightly below expectations. 

In the active component, the Army sought 54,200 recruitments through July. It gained 55,131 -- 102 percent of its goal. The active Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force all hit the 100-percent mark. The services are also on track to meet their yearly retention goals, according to the release.

The Army Reserve set a goal of 23,134 recruitments and gained 25,206 -- 109 percent of the goal. The Navy Reserve, Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard all hit 100 percent of their goals, while the Marine Corps Reserve hit 105 percent. However, the Army National Guard, which set a recruitment goal of 43,659 recruitments, fell nearly 2,000 short.
