Fort Bragg Has Not Released Name of Senior Officer Killed Thursday
Details have not yet been announced from the fatal shooting.
The Fort Bragg and Fayetteville communities were rocked by Thursday's tragic shooting by a soldier, who is accused of leaving one senior leader dead before turning the gun on himself during an afternoon formation.
While the officials at Fort Bragg's Public Affairs Office have not released further details, the Army Times has reported that a senior leader, a battalion commander, in the 525th Battlefield Surveillance Brigade was the victim of the fatal shooting.
The shooter is thought to be an E-4 in the support battalion and his condition is not yet known. He was likely taken to Fort Bragg's Womack Army Medical Center.
It is unclear what the motive was and whether or not the soldier suffered from PTSD.
Other troops within the area were on lock down until the incident was cleared by the military police. The area is no longer cordoned off.
