Bragg Soldier Caught After Breaking into Guns Plus

Soldier Jailed on Gun Theft Charges

Cumberland County Sheriff’s Detectives have charged a Fort Bragg soldier with breaking in to a local gun jobbery early Monday morning.

28-year old William David Devane of 8961 Ardennes Road, Fort Bragg allegedly broke out a glass front door of Guns Plus at 1503 North Bragg Boulevard in Spring Lake and forced open a metal roll-up door to gain entrance.

Once inside the business, Devane took nine semi-automatic rifles, seven semi-automatic handguns, ammunition, gun sights and several weapon magazines.  The property was valued at more than 68 thousand dollars.

Devane was captured shortly after his escape.  He was found next door to the business he’d robbed, hiding on top of a panel type vehicle.

Devane is being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center under a 50 thousand dollar, secured bond.  He is expected to make a first court appearance on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at 2:30 p.m. in the Detention Center Courtroom.
