7th SFG Green Beret Killed in Afghanistan

The details surrounding the incident are under investigation.

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

Staff Sgt. Andrew T. Britton-Mihalo, 25, of Simi Valley, Calif., died April 25, in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained from small arms fire. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group, Eglin Air Force Base, Fla.

The Associated Press reported Thursday that an Afghan soldier fatally shot an American service member and a local interpreter Wednesday in southern Kandahar province, the latest in a string of attacks against U.S. and other foreign forces by their Afghan partners.

An Afghan soldier opened fire with a machine gun from atop a building, killing a U.S. soldier and an Afghan interpreter and wounding three other coalition service members before he was gunned down, according to a senior U.S. defense official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to The Associated Press.
