Local Pharmacist Charged with Prescription Fraud

Fayetteville man facing 25 counts of identification theft, 19 counts of obtaining a prescription drug by fraud and six counts of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud.

Cumberland County Bureau of Narcotics Agents have charged a local pharmacist with prescription fraud.

John Richard White, 73, of 2503 Woodwind Drive, Fayetteville was taken into custody this afternoon according to Debbie Tanna, CCSO Pubic Information Officer.

Investigators say White was employed by Food Lion in Stedman, during the time he allegedly assumed the DEA identification of a military doctor and a civilian OB-GYN.

Between 2011 and 2012, White is accused of ordering prescriptions for Androgel, a testosterone enhancement under his name, as well as thyroid and estrogen medications for his wife.

White is charged with 25 counts of identification theft, 19 counts of obtaining a prescription drug by fraud and six counts of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud.

He was released from the Cumberland County Detention Center under a 125 thousand dollar, unsecured bond.  White will make a first court appearance in the Detention Courtroom at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26, 2013.
