Fayetteville's Fourth Annual Stop Child Trafficking Now 5k
The winds from Sandy did not deter race goers at Festival Park on Sunday walking or running to raise awareness for human trafficking.
Around 400 participants showed up in the blustery weather Sunday afternoon for Fayetteville's 4th annual Stop Child Trafficking Now 5k.
From the serious competitive runners to casual families strolling with their kids, Festival Park was filled with music and community supporters.
Chick-fil-A on Ramsey Street sponsored the Kids Zone with games, giveaways and face painting. The Spa Fitness & Wellness Center brought water, fruit and giveaways for monthly spa package treatments. Fayetteville Wesleyan Church contributed water for the venue.
Snyder Memorial Baptist Church's, Steps of Faith, dance team performed powerful interpretive dance numbers to kick off the event.
Fayetteville State University's Air Force ROTC color guard started the ceremony with bringing in the flags for the National Anthem.
Manna Church's youth minister, Shawn Withy-Allen and Senior Pastor Michael Fletcher provided statistics and shared about what SCTNow and others are doing to raise awareness to combat human trafficking targeting children.
Closing ceremonies and awards were followed by a meaningful interpretive dance number by a senior dance team from Alpha & Omega Dance Academy.
Missed the event? Donations can still be made online and t-shirts can be purchased for $10. More on human trafficking at the alarming statistics can be found on SCTNow's site.
