Tech Trends: Google Plus Forges Ahead

Just two short weeks after the launch of Google Plus, web reports put the number of users at 10 million, according to Google CEO Larry Page.

Does the idea have staying power?

Giddy business owners are waiting on a standby application for Google Plus. Site developers are tweaking the platform for the business community.

Kirk deViere, a local social media and Internet marketing expert and president of 219 Group, weighed in on the importance of Google Plus.

"Google is the dominant for search engines, and that is what drives marketing for business," said deViere. He framed this explanation with the example of a Google Biz Site showing up first in browser ranking before a FaceBook page to emphasize the importance it can play.

It seems like years since users flocked to Facebook from My Space, and I am sure users will follow suit with Google Plus before long. Get ready to create a new profile, add to the lists of things to keep tabs on, install another app to your smart phones so you aren't left out of the hype surrounding Google Plus.

The current iPhone does not allow for a widget, but perhaps with the next release of Apple’s iPhone 5, the iOS mobile operating system will be in place. Until then it appears that Android’s operating system is Google’s vehicle of choice.

Just when I got used to the idea of ‘Liking’ local businesses and getting more ‘Friends’, it’s time to join other ‘Circles’, ‘Hangouts’ and share photos that will ‘Spark’ others to engage with Google Plus and start sharing.
