The Traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall comes to town

A spectacular site went up Sunday morning to honor those killed in the Vietnam War

Sunday was another touching tribute to the veterans of the Vietnam War, their families and community supporters alike. At half the size of the main, full-scale memorial in D.C., many local residents of Fayetteville have the opportunity to view the monument through Nov. 14 at Fayetteville's Airborne & Special Operations Museum.

The flags on the field appropriately reflect on the wall paying honor to the thousands of names inscribed on the panels of the temporary monument. For many it was a time to show support to current Vietnam veterans and just be there for them. Other veterans of the Vietnam War saw it as a chance to pay respects to their peers who were killed during the war. The painful memories shared by many now have a sense of honor when a community comes together like this - years down the road.

"My brother would have wept to have seen this. Only in his final days six years ago did he share some of his experiences from his time in Vietnam", said Cheryl Coates who traveled from Winston-Salem, NC to be at many of this events this week.

Not only is the traveling monument a site to behold, it is a chance to whisper 'thank you', or perhaps 'goodbye' as we reflect on the sacrifice of so many.
