The mission of the 274th Forward Medical Surgical Team (ABN) is to provide a rapidly deployable urgent initial surgical service in a division area of operation. They can be dropped with all equipment anywhere in the world within 18 hours.
This 20-man team can perform triage and preoperative functions, initial surgery, and postoperative nursing care on the battle field. They require an hour and a half to set up and become fully functional with two operating tables per team. The average time per patient equals 135 minutes.
