Westboro Baptist Church Set to Protest Saturday at Sgt. Donna Johnson's Funeral
Anti-protestors can take part in "A Human Wall for Fallen Soldiers", an organized group whose goal is to assemble enough people to shield the family from protesters.
Westboro Baptist Church will be protesting SGT Donna Johnson's funeral at 10:15am Saturday Oct 13th at the Raeford Presbyterian Church, 128 Edinborough Ave in Raeford.
The group was reported to be picketing the three military funerals in North Carolina according to a WCNC news report. The group connects the deaths of soldiers to America's acceptance of gays.
Army Sgt. Donna R. Johnson
Died October 1, 2012 Serving During Operation Enduring Freedom
29, of Raeford, N.C.; assigned to 514th Military Police Company, 60th Troop Command, Winterville, N.C.; died Oct.1, in Khost, Afghanistan, of injuries caused by a suicide bomber. She has served our nation for 6 yrs. This was her third deployment. She leaves behind her wife, Tracy.
According to Johnson's sister in a LGBTPOV report, they had been together for years, before the military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy was repealed. Johnson’s family says she shouldn’t be judged by her sexual orientation.
An outcry of support via local Facebook pages has swept the Fort Bragg and Fayetteville area as many plan to gather alongside Patriot Guard Riders to 'protect' the family during the military funeral. There is a Facebook page established to 'Join' against this protest.

Some people will do anything for their 15 minutes in the limelight. Shame on them. They have the same thought set as the islamic nazis who killed her. Shame on them. They make others ashamed to be Americans, with a belief in God. Shame on them. What exactly are they protesting? That her family wants to have a funeral for her? Shame on them.

If they would start throwing their asses in jail for protesting the men and women whom have made the ultimate sacrifice for this country instead of worrying about whether we hurt their feelings I bet the protest would stop. If they don't like our Veterans and the sacrifices they have made then get your ass out of the country and see what happens to you. These idiots do this because our politicians worry about making money instead of protecting our people with the freedoms we all should be able to enjoy instead of burning our flag, protesting our soldiers and wanting everyone else to give them everything instead of working for it. Sry I'll get off my soapbox but the retards really piss me off

Unfortunately, the First Amendment that gives you the freedom to make that statement also gives this "church" the freedom to have their little protests. While I completely agree that these guys are absolute jerks for protesting the way they do, it is not an offense they can be arrested for (yet). The Honoring America’s Veterans and Caring for Camp Lejeune Families Act of 2012 only states that they have to stay 300 feet away, and can't be there the 2 hours before, during, and the 2 hours after the service. As long as they abide by those rules, they can not be arrested, unless they start causing physical problems. Which they don't. They're very smart about how they do this, they hurl insults and try to provoke the people they're protesting into throwing the first punch, so they can turn around and sue the snot out of that person. The best way to deal with this group is the human wall; a group of people, usually dressed in the same color, standing shoulder to shoulder around the building or entrance, completely ignoring the "church" members.

WHAT I DON'T UNDERSTAND IS HOW COME NOBODY EVER THOUGHT OF PROTESTING THE WESTBORO BAPTIST CHURCH (WHICH IS LOCATED AT 3701 SOUTHWEST 12th STREET, IN TOPEKA, KANSAS)? WHAT THE PROTEST COULD BE ABOUT IS THAT PEOPLE ARE LARGELY AGAINST SO MANY RELIGIOUS VILLAGE IDIOTS HAVING KIDS AND PRETENDING THAT THEY ARE THE "EYES OF GOD" WHEN IN REALITY, ARE NOTHING MORE THAN THE CR*P ON THE BOTTOM OF YOUR BOOT WHEN YOU WALK THROUGH A COW PASTURE. IN FACT, FORT RILEY, KS, IS ONLY 63 MILES WEST OF TOPEKA ON INTERSTATE 70 AND I BET THERE ARE A FEW SOLDIERS THAT WOULDN'T MIND VISITING ON A SUNDAY MORNING FOR CHURCH SERVICES, JUST TO SHOW THEIR "APPRECIATION" FOR WESTBORO'S RELIGIOUS INTERPRETATION OF THE BIBLE.

God is the only judge. He gives us freewill to make our own choices then he shall judge us accordingly. There's no big sin vs a small sin. Sin is Sin. People need to study that same bible they claim to be standing up for. You want to be like Christ? Then allow people to live as they choose and wait until the day of judgement after you stand before the Lord for you to make your protest. I assure you that God will not need your opinion or your protesting show of support! You just may hear Him say, "Depart from me Ye workers of iniquity; I know ye not!"

Couldn't have said it better myself! Whether her life choice was a sin or not is not even important. If it is...well it isn't any worse than the massive number of sins each and every one of those protestors has committed throughout their lives. Not once in the Bible does Christ preach that it's our job to judge others. Quite the contrary. These people are the reason that the word Christian conjures up so many nasty things for most people in the US. I hope people reading this can understand...these people call themselves Christians, but they are no more Christians than my cat is an astronaut. REAL Christians are loving, accepting, and NOT judgmental.

Or not. The bible is a book written and rewritten and re-rewritten by men who had control an dpower at the center of their motives. It was NOT written by any "God". no divine fingerprints, no lightening bolts of ink. Those of you who wish to beleive in fairytales and myths are free to do so, but leave those myths OUT of the secular laws that govern America-As the founders wanted.

You are completely correct, except for your suggestion that Christians are supposed to stand by and do nothing, while our friends and loved ones make their way to Hell. Now I am 100% against the methods that the Westboro loons use to go about it, as they represent hatred, not God's love. But Christians are clearly called throughout the New Testament to be evangelists, in love, to the lost. To NOT share the gift of salvation to the unsaved is completely hypocritical for professing Christians.

I am so supportive of you comment Brenda! This poor woman who has served our country for over 6 yrs does not deserve this type of criticism. My little sister (age 58) is lesbian. So what? She is a kind soul, an upstanding citizen, etc. Sexual preference is a sin to the Lord. But so is using His name in vain, pornography, lusting after another, stealing...etc. Leave the personal life at home. She DEFENDED us!! So terribly sad. And you are right...ONLY GOD can and should judge not the yahoos with narrow minds. While I do not condone it....I will live with it and love the respectable people they are. True, some are not living a good life...but neither are many heterosexuals!!!

They may have the same bible as other churches but it seems there are many ways to interpret it. Where I live there are 23 churches over a six mile stretch of highway. The majority of them being Baptist. They all study the same book I believe but their understanding of what it says differs so much they feel they must have their own church.
I am a Vet and spent 22 years in the service of my country so there can be 23 churches down the street but never did I serve so other people could interrupt a a religious service or invade someone's life to try to force their beliefs on others.
I am a Vet and an American. I vote for what I feel is best for the US and completely agree with your quote.

I think that the wonderful boys and girls of the Westboro Baptist Church should be deported to a country that appreciates real religious freedom, like Afghanistan. I bet the religiously tolerant Pashtun would be most understanding to their plight.

Who is God enough to say who can't be in love with someone because it makes them uncomfortable?
Only God can say,and I think that were God is,love is.
All that I can do for the hate group is pray that God and love finds them, and they drop the judgement.
Easier to hate what we do not understand.

The most prominent means of instigating homophobia is the elementary idea of fear of one's self. It is obvious that those with such a blind abhorrence to homosexuality are latent homosexuals themselves. To be so intolerant, and to represent a religion that teaches unwavering tolerance, is simply just one more facet to their audacious acts of bigotry. They are not Christian nor Christ-like and will be judged accordingly under Karmic Law as well as their own religion's laws. Needless to say, I feel they may be judged harshly.

As a veteran I wish I can be there at NC playing the beugler to show respect to her as I fid for a couple of years while I was part of a Funeral Detail in Fort Hood Texas. It was a sad job, but I wanted to do it for all the fallen soldiers. It was my way to show to their family how proud I was for their service. As a christian I pray for her and her family. Good news,,,you'll be happy to know,,,There were over 1000 Patriots who attended the funeral to prevent the WBC from disrupting the services. A few of the Patriots removed the flag from the possession of the westboro baptist church scum who were dragging it on the ground and walking on it. One Patriot was arrested in the process and charged for inciting a riot and the guy on the left nearly got arrested trying to keep the flag from becoming police evidence.
NOTE: There was a picture of the Patriots holding up the flag attached to the message I received.
THANK YOU to all who participated in the Honor Ride to protect the sanctity of this most solemn event, where one of our brave soldiers was laid to rest. God Bless each of you and may God give comfort and peace to Sgt Donna Johnson and her family.

There must be a reason for mosquitoes, cockroaches, and the Westboro Baptist Church.
Perhaps this is to remind us that we all need to honor our fallen soldiers.
Every day.

I look at the situation this way. Westboro Baptist church had better be able to drop to their knees quickly on judgement day. In my mind I'm picturing ALL of our fallen soldiers, that they protested their funerals, riding on their horses with Christ. All of them coming down from the heavens to give them the ass whipping they so souly deserved and EARNED!!!!

My heart goes out to Sgt. Donna Johnson's family and loved ones. I cannot imagine anything more awful than to lose someone you love...a beautiful young woman who gave her life for this country...An American Hero. I wish I were not so far away. I would give anything to be a part of "The Human Wall for Fallen Soldiers".
There is irony in the fact that Westboro "Baptist Church" pickets at our fallen Heros funerals...if it were not for the freedom these amazing military members put their lives on the line to protect, Westboro would not have the freedom to commit the atrocities they do...all in the name of freedom of speech.
I am so grateful that I have other examples of Christianity...how heartbreaking for those whose only example of Christianity is this hate-mongering group. Heavenly Father will deal with these folks in His time. Sadly, in the meantime, our wonderful military families who have lost loved ones have to contend with Westboro's poison.

I saw an article where a lot of college students formed a circle around the funeral of someone this so called church was protesting. It effectively kept the protesters out and gave the family a little more privacy and peace. I thought it was a great idea.

Fred Waldron Phelps is pastor of the independent Westboro Baptist Church, an extremist organization not affiliated with mainstream Baptist churches, and is a controversial activist against homosexual behavior. Phelps has been an active contributor to the DEMOCRATIC Party. Phelps has run in various Kansas DEMOCRATIC Party primaries five times, but has never won. These included races for governor in 1990, 1994, and 1998, receiving about 15 percent of the vote in 1998. In the 1992 DEMOCRATIC Party primary for U.S. Senate, Phelps received 31 percent of the vote. Phelps ran for mayor of Topeka in 1993 and 1997. Phelps supported Al Gore in the 1988 DEMOCRATIC Party primary election According to Phelps, members of the Westboro Baptist Church helped run Gore's 1988 campaign in Kansas. Phelps' son, Fred Phelps Jr., hosted a Gore fundraiser at his home in Topeka and was a Gore delegate to the 1988 DEMOCRATIC National Convention

I looked up the Westboro Baptist church and it is listed as having only 40 members, mostly members of Phelps' family. It's apparent they are inbred. They have such hatred in their souls that they will eventually burn out, hopefully sooner rather than later.
Rest in peace Sgt. Johnson

to Frank James...I am studying the Bible. But I still have human compassion for this woman. She is a sinner. Yes. I do not condone it. I cannot help her...she is gone.God is the ONLY ONE...the ONLY one who can judge her. Not us. We can lead other's who have this sin to Salvation ... or try to. I don't condone alcoholics, gluttons, sexual predators, drug addicts...get my drift? I do not condone sin period. BUT JAMES...YOU ARE A SINNER TOO! We all are. Judging is a SIN. Amen.

The bible says to warn the wicked! Also if you see a man sin a sin unto death he is to be warned. We are allowed to judge Sin and forsake it. oh did I say I am not a sinner? you put words in my mouth. The Bible say all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. But God warns us to repent and turn to Christ. Te Liberal take the scripture Judge ye not least ye sall be Judged. You need to read the verses before and after to understand the meaning. Oh else that would be like saying Don't Judge a Murderer for Murder. You used caps to say YOU ARE A SINNER TOO! like that is going to make me not stand up for the Word of God. And not call a spade a spade. Get my Drift? or a least get what the word of God is saying to you. Not wat I say. Read God's word. The Bible says to be ye seperate and touch not the unclean thing. So Judging Sin and saying what is a Sin is not Sin. Get my Drift.

What needs to happen to this little band of self-proclaimed protesters is for them to show up at a protest, have the Cops stay away and for a group of military or former military guys to soundly whip their ass. I guarantee that would be the last protest for those people. Sgt. Johnson, thank you for your service to our nation and may you rest in peace?

I wish I wasn't 89 years old and living 1600 miles away. While the ignorant family was away for protesting, I'd set their house on fire.(Yeah, I know it isn't legal, but what can anyone due to hurt me at this age?)

It should be treasonous to demonstrate and disrespect Sgt. Johnson's funeral and her family who will be in attendance. Sgt. Johnson served her country--the free country you're damned lucky to live in because of brave soldiers like her--for six years and lost her life in the line of duty. Duty to you pompous, finger-pointing, small-minded, holier-than-thou slugs. I think we should all demonstrate outside your Baptist Church in an effort to move you out of this country. You do not deserve the safety, comforts, opportunity and freedoms this country affords you when you disrespect the very people who stand in harm's way daily to make that way of life possible for you. Your display of hate and intolerance is speaks volumes of your character...and none of it is good.

This is one christian, baptist pastor that says thank you and rest in peace Sgt Johnson. I will offer my prayers of thanksgiving and praise for you. Jesus said there is no greater gift than than to give your life for others. I also pray for the peace and comfort of God to cover you family friends and loved ones in this time of grief. We have lost a true treasure and God will honor their sacrifice. Jesus said, I came not to condemn the world but that through me you might have life and that life more abundant. Don't worry God will deal with the wolves in sheeps clothing, those false teachers and worker of iniquity. Put them out of heart and mind and focus as I will on giving honor and glory to the ones that have paid the ultimate price for our freedom. God bless you all and may his peace fill your life.
