Who Was the Best Candidate Never Elected to the Presidency?

George McGovern, who died Sunday, brings to mind a series of White House hopefuls with fans.

Former Democratic Sen. George McGovern, the World War II bomber pilot who became an anti-war candidate for president in 1972, died Sunday in South Dakota. His landslide loss to Richard Nixon came amid the unraveling of the Watergate scandal, which led to Nixon’s resignation in 1974. McGovern is part of a long line of White House losers still revered by fans. Who was your favorite nonwinner of the presidency? Explain why in the comments.
