In 1804, famous exploration team Lewis & Clark set out on a scientific and exploration trek across our great country. While their purpose was mainly to find a way to trade with Asia, they also spent time studying area plants, animal life and geography.
While it may not be the grand cross-country adventure that Lewis & Clark once explored, the Fayetteville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau offers a Geocaching Trail of its own, taking you across our great County! Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location. Geocaching trails are located all over the world and Cumberland County is proud to have one of their own.
Through a series of coordinates & a hand-held GPS, individuals head out in search of specific locations around Cumberland County (which means you’ll also need your vehicle & some comfortable walking shoes!) Our trail trek takes you to some great places, both historical and one of a kind. Don’t have the time to find all the locations in one day? Don’t worry – this is one trail that you can visit again and again.
Adults and children alike can enjoy the mystery of where our coordinates are taking you! After you’ve visited the sites, come back to our website, click on the clue and add your comments about the location. Did you find it? We would love to hear your feedback!
