New Nationwide Lending Initiative for veterans to be announced at Fort Bragg, Tuesday

FORT BRAGG, N.C. - U.S. Small Business Administrator Karen Mills will announce a new nationwide lending initiative for veterans at Fort Bragg, May 21 at 1 p.m. at Memorial Hall in the Soldier Support Center.   Mills will be joined by representatives of the SBA lending community from across the country, Department of Defense officials and transitioning service members who have chosen to participle in SBA’s Operation Boots to Business (B2B) program.  The Operation Boots to Business program is an initiative to train veterans and transitioning service members in business entrepreneurship. Poll: Should Tea Party Groups—and Foes—Get Automatic Nonprofit Status?

“Social welfare organizations” under the 501(c)(4) section of the tax code are pushing the IRS envelope.

The Cincinnati office of the IRS that reviews requests for tax-exempt status has some splainin’ to do.  If it turns out that officials targeted groups with “tea party” or “patriot” in their name for special scrutiny, heads will roll. Even President Obama said: “If in fact IRS personnel engaged in the kind of practices that have been reported on and were intentionally targeting conservative groups, then that’s outrageous.” But the elephant in the room could be the tax code itself. PTAs, civic leagues and charities are being lumped together with politically partisan groups as “social welfare organizations” under the 501(c)(4) section. Hope Mills Resident Wins $100,000 in Lottery

The scratch-off ticket will net $68,003 after taxes.

Saturday, one lucky Hope Mills resident bought a scratch-off $5 Monopoly ticket at a Ramsey Street gas station and won big. $100,000 big. Gerry Davis a fence contractor plans to use the money to grow his business and stash some away in savings. "At first, I had only scratched off the top of the ticket and thought I had won $50,000," Davis said in a Fayettevile Observer news report. "I was already freaking out about winning that, but then I started scratching again and saw the rest of the numbers come up." What's the most you've won on a lottery ticket?
