82nd Airborne Female Soldier Dies in Motorcycle Accident

An 82nd Airborne Division Paratrooper died Sunday from injuries suffered during a motorcycle accident in Florence, S.C. on Saturday.

Warrant Officer Anisha Phillips, 30, of New York, was a Chemical, Biological, Nuclear and Radiological (CBRN) Technician with Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division.

Phillips enlisted in the Army in January 2002 as a CBRN Specialist. She attended Warrant Officer Candidate School in 2012. Phillips served two combat tours in Iraq in 2003 and 2005 - 2006, and one combat tour in Afghanistan, from 2010 - 2011.     

"Anisha was a recent addition to the 82d Airborne Division Team and quickly made her presence felt through her outstanding work ethic, drive, and personality,” said Maj. James Collier, deputy CBRN officer, 82nd Airborne Division. “She provided critical support to multiple Division efforts and her contributions will have a lasting and positive impact on both the Division CBRN Section and the Paratroopers of the Division," Collier added.            

WO1 Phillips’ awards and decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal (6th award), the Army Achievement Medal (4th award), the Army Good Conduct Medal (3rd award), the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with two campaign stars, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon with numeral 3, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon with numeral 2, the NATO Medal.
