Memorial Service Held for Two Fallen Fort Bragg Soldiers

Chief Warrant Officer 2 Thalia Ramirez and Chief Warrant Officer 2 Jose Montenegro were killed in a September helicopter crash in Afghanistan.

Two pilots killed in a Sept. 5 helicopter crash in Afghanistan were memorialized Wednesday in a service at 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade headquarters, the Fayetteville Observer reports.

The families of 28-year-old Chief Warrant Officer Thalia S. Ramirez and 31-year-old Chief Warrant Officer Jose l. Montenegro Jr. were presented Purple Hearts and Air Medals with Valor Device, the paper reported.

The official report says Ramirez and Montenegro were in a two-person helicopter, an OH-58D Kiowa Warrior, when it went down. The Observer reports they had been responding to a distress call from ground troops under attack.
