IED Kills Paratrooper in Afghanistan

Fort Bragg soldier dies in Khandahar on June 28.

The Department of Defense announced Wednesday that Staff Sgt. Donald V. Stacy, a 23-year-old soldier from Avondale, Ariz. was killed Tuesday in Kandahar after insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device.

Having two Iraq deployments under his belt after joining the Army in 2005, Stacy was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart.

Stacy was a squad leader in Company B, 1st Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division that was assigned to the Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force - Afghanistan upon arriving in theater earlier this month.

Stacy graduated from Agua Fria High School in 2005. He is survived by his mother, Felicia Escobedo, also of Avondale.
