Two Fort Bragg Soldiers Killed Last Week in Afghanistan

Sustaining injuries from an improvised explosive device, two die in Operation Enduring Freedom

Corporals Devin James Daniels, 22, of Kuna, Idaho and Colby Lee
Richmond, 28, of Providence, N.C., died Aug. 25 of wounds sustained from an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan.

The Soldiers were assigned to the 546th Transportation Company, 82nd Sustainment Brigade.

"Corporal Colby Richmond and Corporal Devin Daniels were two great
Americans serving the hallowed calling as a Soldier for our Nation," said Col. Christopher J. Sharpsten, commander, 82nd Sustainment Brigade. "Every day, they traveled the most dangerous roads in this world. They knew the dangers and bravely performed their duty. It was a tragic loss and our most heartfelt condolences go out to their Families."

Daniels enlisted in the Army in 2008 and was assigned to the 546th
Transportation Company in August 2010. He served as a vehicle driver and deployed in August 2010. His past duty assignments include Fort Hood, Texas; Fort Benning, Ga.; Fort Bliss, Texas; and Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.

Daniels military schools include the Combat Lifesaver Course.

His awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO Medal, Combat Action Badge and Drivers Badge.

Daniels is survived by his wife and 8-month-old daughter.

Transportation Company in March 2010. He served as a vehicle driver and deployed in August 2010. His past duty assignments include Fort Hood, Texas; Camp Casey, Korea; and Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.

Richmond's military schools include the Warrior Leader's Course,
Combat Lifesaver Course, Advanced Individual Training and Basic Combat Training.

His awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Noncommissioned Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO Medal, Combat Action Badge and Drivers Badge.

Richmond is survived by his wife and 6-year-old son.

Lt. Col. Greg Wagnon, commander, 82nd Special Troops Battalion, 82nd Sustainment Brigade, echoed Sharpsten's comments.

"We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of two great American
Soldiers who served our Nation proudly," he said. "Our thoughts, prayers and support are with the Richmond and Daniels Families during this difficult time."

A private memorial for the Soldiers was held on Aug. 31 for the service members.
