Fayetteville Police Officer Identified in Last Week's Traffic Stop Shooting

Fayetteville Police personnel have received threats and the case remains under investigation.

The name of the Fayetteville police officer who shot a man to death during a traffic stop last week was released Wednesday morning.

Officer Aaron Hunt, 24, was the police officer identified in last Thursday's, Jan. 24, shooting. Nijza Lamar Hagans, 22, was fatally shot by Hunt near South Virginia Avenue and Morganton Road.

According to a media release by Fayetteville Police officials, retaliatory threats have been made against the officer and the police department following the killing.

"General threats have been made against the department as well as departmental personnel," according to the release.

The case is still under investigation by the State Bureau of Investigation.
