Another 82nd Airborne Soldier Found Unresponsive in Barracks Room

Further details are not available and the investigation is underway. Over the past year several other incidents of this nature have occurred and have been kept private by the post personnel.

 

An 82nd Airborne Division Paratrooper was found unresponsive in his barracks room here Saturday evening and later pronounced dead. The incident is currently under investigation and no other information is being released at this time. 

Spc. David M. Gannon, 34, of West Jordan, Utah, was a grenadier in Company C, 2nd Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team according to the Fort Bragg Public Affairs office.

“Spc. Gannon was an exceptional Paratrooper and an integral member of our team,” said Lt. Col. Praxitelis N. Vamvakias, Gannon’s battalion commander.  “Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends; we will never forget him”

Gannon joined the Army in February 2011, attended Basic Combat Training and U.S. Army Airborne School at Fort Benning, Ga., and was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division in July 2011.  Gannon deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from March 2012 to August 2012.

His awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the NATO Medal, the Combat Infantryman Badge and the Parachutist Badge.  Posthumously he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster and the Army Good Conduct Medal.
