Death of a 525th Battlefield Surveillance Brigade Soldier

Sergeant Kevin Dewayne Moseby, 28, was shot and killed off post.


A Fort Bragg Soldier died in an off post incident Sunday, March 18.

Sergeant Kevin Dewayne Moseby, 28, of the 29th Support Company,
Special Troops Battalion, 525th Battlefield Surveillance Brigade, was shot
and killed at an off post residence.

Duane Brown Jr., 30, of Sanford, also a soldier from Fort Bragg, is being charged with first-degree murder in the shooting.

Moseby's ex-wife, Dorothy Moseby, told police Brown was angry because she ended her relationship with him to try to rekindle her marriage with Moseby, according to court records according to a Fayetteville Observer report.

Moseby, a native of Monticello, Ark., was a petroleum supply
noncommissioned officer and arrived at the unit in January 2010. He joined
the military in July 2006. Moseby's previous assignments include Fort
Jackson, S.C., and Fort Lee, Va., where he completed basic and advanced
individual training, respectively and Baumholder, Germany, where he was
assigned to 1st Battalion, 35th Armored Regiment, 1st Armored Division.
Moseby deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from July 2010-July
2011 and Operation Iraqi Freedom from April 2008-May 2009. Additionally,
Moseby had earned an associate degree and completed the Warrior Leaders
Course.

"On behalf of all of the Soldiers of the Lightning Brigade, I would
like to express my sincerest condolences to the family and friends of
Sergeant Kevin Dewayne Moseby," said Col. Xavier T. Brunson, commander,
525th Battlefield Surveillance Brigade. "Sergeant Moseby was dedicated to
making a difference in this world. We will always remember what he
sacrificed for the American people, the United State Army, and his Family.
We are eternally indebted to him for his dedicated service, commitment, and
pursuit of all that is best in this world. It has been a privilege to have
served alongside him."

Moseby's awards and decorations include the NATO Medal, Army
Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal,
National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign
Star, Iraqi Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, Global War on Terrorism
Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officers Professional Development Ribbon,
Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon and the Drivers/Mechanic Badge.

A private memorial service for Moseby is scheduled for on post
Wednesday, March 21.

The incident is currently under investigation by local law enforcement officials.
