Fisher House Foundation to the Rescue Amidst Death Benefits Fiasco

Don't mess with our Families of the Fallen

Since last week's government shutdown four soldiers were killed in combat, affecting the immediate release of death benefits to those families.

On Tuesday Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., announced that the Maryland-based Fisher House Foundation has offered to cover the $100,000 payments to each of the families.

“After losing a loved one in service to our nation, these families should not have to endure more pain as the result of political squabbling,” Ken Fisher, the foundation's chairman and chief executive officer said in a statement in a Fox news report. “For the last 20 years, Fisher House has been there to support our military families in their time of greatest need. We are now stepping up to honor the sacrifices that have been made, and to repay a debt that is truly unpayable.”

Once the news broke of the decision to withhold funding, the news spread like wildfire across the Fort Bragg area social media outlets. Military spouses and soldiers alike were enraged and 'shared' the link from news circuits, in disgust.

Families of the fallen are a pretty big deal, not only Fort Bragg, but at installations everywhere, and their supporters are fiercely protective.
