Marine Honored by Taylor Swift to be Awarded Silver Star Posthumously

The family of a Marine killed in May during combat operations in Helmand Province will receive the Silver Star posthumously Thursday, the 1st Marine Division reports.

Sgt. Wade Wilson, of Webster, Texas, was a member of the division's 2nd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment.

During a May 11 firefight, the Marine left the safety of his armored vehicle to fight insurgents and was killed in the process, the Marine Corps Times reports.

Wilson was a fan of country star Taylor Swift. After Wade’s death, Swift called the Marines family to offer her condolences and told them she would wear his dog tags in her next video.

The division has details on the event:

The ceremony is scheduled to be held at the 5th Marine Regiment parade deck on Camp San Mateo at 10 a.m. Major General Ronald L. Bailey, commanding general of 1st Marine Division, will be presenting the award to the Marine’s family.

Wilson’s mother will be accepting the award on behalf of her son, and his brothers will also be in attendance.
