NC Senator Kay Hagan Ushers in Obama's Climate Change Agenda

Jobs & Economy Fall Victim to Liberal Wishlist

Contributed by Sen. Kay Hagan's office

At the start of the year and President Obama's second term, the Pew Research Center asked Americans to list their policy priorities. The result? "Huge majorities cited jobs and the economy; sizable majorities cited health care costs and entitlement reform; more modest majorities cited fighting poverty and reforming the tax code. Down at the bottom of the list, with less than 40 percent support in each case, were gun control, immigration and climate change."

As New York Times columnist Ross Douthat notes: "Yet six months later, the public’s non-priorities look like the entirety of the White House’s second-term agenda.... the administration is reportedly planning a sweeping regulatory push on carbon emissions this summer. Meanwhile, nobody expects much action on the issues that Americans actually wanted Washington to focus on: tax and entitlement reform have been back-burnered, and the plight of the unemployed seems to have dropped off the D.C. radar screen entirely."

Rather than focusing on means to strengthen the economy, President Obama is embracing the most extreme environmentalists on the left and forcing his own agenda of radical climate change policies, blatantly ignoring the priorities of Americans. But Obama has company. Democrat Kay Hagan has been a firm supporter of the President's agenda, voting with him 94% of the time

Meanwhile, month after month, we continue to see that a clear majority of families and workers remain focused and concerned over our economy and its ability to grow jobs while Democrats in Washington continue to push their own personal agendas.

Douthat writes that "D.C. gridlock has given the political class an excuse to ignore the country’s most pressing problem — a lack of decent jobs at decent wages, with a deeper social crisis at work underneath — and pursue its own pet causes instead."

So while North Carolinians are looking to Obama and Hagan to lead on the most critical issue of improving and securing the economic health and well-being of our nation, the dynamic duo are focusing on their pet cause of climate change. And what does that mean for states like North Carolina? More red tape regulation, higher taxes, and higher costs that would cripple entire industries and destroy local jobs.

"Kay Hagan's embrace and support of President Obama is hurting families and workers in North Carolina," said Brook Hougesen, Press Secretary for the National Republican Senatorial Committee. "Instead of focusing on economic growth, creating opportunity for the middle class, and making sure that everyone has a fair shot at success, Kay Hagan and Barack Obama have prioritized liberal pet causes that are simply not top priorities for most North Carolinians, showing just how out of touch they are."
