PHOTOS: Bread and Bowls annual fundraiser

Warm food on a rainy day to benefit others

The fifth annual Bread and Bowls fundraiser to support Operation Inasmuch launched today at 11:30 at the Hay Street United Methodist Church downtown.

Bread and Bowls was set to partner with Music for Missions during the Fourth Friday event tonight, but was cancelled due to the area being under a tornado watch and severe wind and rains that blew into our region early in the afternoon.

"This rain won't scare too many people away, this is all for a good cause and it's once a year," said Pearl Hopkins as she savored her warm bowl of soup.

Colorful pottery bowls sculpted by individuals in our community, especially for the event, lined two tables and were up for the taking for those donating $20 for their chicken Brunswick stew lunch.

One table boasted bowls sculpted and painted by some homeless residents.

Lining the church cafeteria were tables with auction items up for bid ranging from baskets full of local business donations to wares for children, ladies or anyone wishing to make a donation for a good cause.

Local churches who participated were , , and .
