New Nationwide Lending Initiative for veterans to be announced at Fort Bragg, Tuesday

FORT BRAGG, N.C. - U.S. Small Business Administrator Karen Mills will announce a new nationwide lending initiative for veterans at Fort Bragg, May 21 at 1 p.m. at Memorial Hall in the Soldier Support Center.   Mills will be joined by representatives of the SBA lending community from across the country, Department of Defense officials and transitioning service members who have chosen to participle in SBA’s Operation Boots to Business (B2B) program.  The Operation Boots to Business program is an initiative to train veterans and transitioning service members in business entrepreneurship. Army Supports President's Request for 2015 BRAC Round

While large cuts are inevitable, no official announcements have been made.

Army News Service by C. Todd Lopez As the Army cuts the number of Soldiers in its ranks, there will be an excess of infrastructure in place that used to support those Soldiers. Maintaining that extra unused infrastructure could mean other critical Army programs will suffer, said a senior official. "A future round of base realignment and closure, or BRAC, in the U.S. is essential to identify and reduce excess Army infrastructure, and prudently align our civilian staffing with reduced uniform force structure," said Katherine Hammack, the assistant secretary of the Army for Installations, Energy and Environment. 82nd Airborne Division War Memorial Museum 2013 All-American Week Events

Take some time next week to attend some of these memorable events.

  FORT BRAGG, N.C. - The 82nd Airborne Division War Memorial Museum will provide many special events during All American week.  The museum serves to honor the Soldiers and Paratroopers that have served the Division’s proud 95-year history and will be open extended hours from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00p.m. during All American week, May 20-24. A living history detachment will allow visitors to experience 82nd Abn. Div. history up close from Tuesday, May 21 to Friday, May 24. The living history detachment will also host a Normandy Jump Experience on Wednesday, May 23 at 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. These events will be held at the museum, registration is required you can call the museum to register.  Mr. Joseph S. 82nd Airborne Division Paratrooper Dies at WAMC,

3rd Brigade Combat Team loses 1LT. Paul Demeo, investigation in progress.

FORT BRAGG, N.C. - 1st Lt. Paul Demeo, an 82nd Airborne Division Paratrooper, passed away Tuesday morning at Womack Army Medical Center on Fort Bragg, N.C. Further details surrounding his death are not available from the Public Affairs Office. 1st Lt. Demeo, 23, of Derry, N.H., was a Platoon Leader assigned to Company B, 2nd Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team. 1st Lt. Demeo was commissioned into the Army on May 21, 2011 after graduating from United States Army Military Academy at West Point.  After completing the Infantry Officer Basic Course, Basic Airborne and Ranger School at Fort Benning, Ga., he was assigned as a Plans Officer to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 505th Parachute …

82nd Airborne Division All-American Week “Forging the Future”

Next week the annual celebration gets underway at Fort Bragg.

  FORT BRAGG, N.C. – The 82nd Airborne Division’s annual celebration of airborne heritage, unit cohesion and family fun, All American Week 2013, will be held May 20-24. The theme for this year’s event is ‘Forging the Future’. “After more than a decade fighting the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the entirety of the 82nd Abn. Div. is back at home station. This will be a very special All American Week, with more than 19,000 Paratroopers at Fort Bragg to celebrate, in addition to their families and friends and Division veterans from years past,” said Maj. Man Charged with Seriously Injuring Girlfriend with Hot Grease

The female was sent to UNC Hospitals Burn Center for treatment.

  Cumberland County Sheriff’s Detectives have charged a St. Pauls man, after he flung hot grease from a frying pan onto his girlfriend.  Carlie Jason Tyler, 34, of 3863 Chicken Foot Road, was arrested shortly after the incident, at the home he shared with 39-year old Kimberly Denise Faulkner. Tyler was placed in the Cumberland County Detention Center, where he is being held without bond.  He is charged with assault inflicting serious bodily injury and assault on a female. Faulkner has been sent to UNC Hospitals Burn Center in Chapel Hill for treatment.  She suffers from 2nd degree burns to her face, chest, arms and hands. Tyler will make a first court appearance this afternoon in the Detention Center courtroom at 2:30 p.m.

It was for a man recently arrested in a Loganville Walmart.

You're out shopping -- wearing some new jeans you bought at another store and forgot to remove the tag from. A store employee gets suspicious, and police ask you to step into the loss-prevention office so they can check out your pants to make sure you're not shoplifting them. You're not shoplifting, so you say no, you can't check out my pants. And out come the handcuffs. The charge for not cooperating, you're warned, is disorderly conduct. What do you do? A Loganville man recently opted for the disorderly conduct charge rather than agree to take his tag-on jeans to the loss-prevention office.
