Army Captain Accused in Plot to Kill Former Wife

An 82nd Airborne officer is detained on allegations.

An officer in the 82nd Airborne, 18th Fires Brigade was arrested Saturday at his  residence on Bozeman Loop, outside of Fort Bragg's Yadkin Road entrance. According to Sunday's Fayetteville Observer news report, Capt. John Kurt Thompson is being held on $50,000 bail at the Cumberland County Detention Center for allegations of his involvement in a murder plot against his former wife, Lauren Thompson. Public Affairs officials at Fort Bragg were not available on Sunday for comments.

Two Fort Bragg Soldiers Killed in Afghanistan

Paratroopers from the 82nd Airborne's First Brigade Combat Team were killed in Ghazni province.

Two First Brigade paratroopers assigned to Fort Bragg were killed Sunday in Ghazni Afghanistan. Both servicemembers were killed in a blast from an improvised explosive device, said a Fort Bragg spokeswoman on Tuesday. First Lt. Jonathan Walsh, 28, was killed when the explosive hit his vehicle in southern Ghazni province. Pfc. Michael Metcalf, 22, who was wounded in that blast, died a short time later. Walsh, an infantry platoon leader with 2nd Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, is survived by his wife and son, Debbra and Austin Walsh, of Raeford, and his parents, Paul and Carolyn Walsh of Kennesaw, Ga. He joined the Army in March 2010 and was assigned to Fort Bragg in August. Walsh was a graduate of Kennesaw State University. …

VIDEO: Troops Return Home to Fort Bragg from Iraq

Around 200 members from the 82nd Airborne's, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, redeployed late Tuesday night.

The Second Brigade Combat Team was the last unit to leave Baghdad, Iraq, and arrived home Tuesday night. They had been deployed in support of Operation New Dawn since May. Welcome home, Falcons!

82nd Airborne Soldier Killed in Ohio Shootout

Police believe Juvon Williams killed his girlfriend before fleeing, and then opened fire on police.

An 82nd Airborne Division soldier who fled after allegedly killing his girlfriend Thursday in Columbus, Ohio, was killed in a shootout with officers. Pfc. Juvon William, 19, a soldier with the 82nd Airborne, was killed by officers at about 3 a.m. Friday, according to an Ohio police report. Williams was scheduled to be deployed to Afghanistan on Friday. Williams was an AH-64 Apache helicopter repairman with 1st Battalion, 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade, according to the 82nd Airborne Division. The search for Williams began on Thursday night, when the body of his girlfriend, Leigh Belyn, 18, was found in the trunk of a car, according to a 10TV News.
