FEMA Sets Up Staging Area at Bragg

North Carolina prepares for Hurricane Irene, which could reach Outer Banks by Saturday morning.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has set up staging areas for its incident management assistance teams at Fort Bragg, N.C., and elsewhere across the region, according to administrator Craig Fugate. FEMA has truckloads of water, meals, durable medical goods, generators and other supplies ready in the event that governors make a direct request for assistance, Fugate said. North Carolina Gov. Bev Perdue has already declared a state of emergency, and evacuation orders have been issued for parts of the Outer Banks, where a hurricane watch is in effect.
