Not All Families of Fallen Get Signed Presidential Letters

Fort Bragg spouse hopes to make a difference and see change enacted

Patricia Sherman remembered how she felt when she got a condolence letter from President Barack Obama after her husband, Sgt. Benjamin Sherman, paid the ultimate sacrifice for his country. So when the Fayetteville resident saw an online notice that a television network was preparing a report about the letters, she decided to weigh in. Sherman shared her condolence letter from the president with CBS News for a national report that aired Tuesday about the policy.  The report, entitled “Honor denied some fallen troops,” aired complaints from families who felt they should get condolence letters, even though they did not meet traditional guidelines for who gets them.
