Golden Knights Take Gold, Silver at World Parachuting Championships

This victory is the best Golden Knights performance at the FAI World Parachuting Championships since 1997.

Army News Service DUBAI, United Arab Emirates -- The U.S. Army Golden Knights Formation Flying 8-Way Team won the Gold Medal, and the All-Female Golden Knights 4-Way Team brought home the Silver Medal, at the 2012 World Parachuting Championships in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The 8-way competition team brought home the Gold in the 8-way Open Formation Skydiving with a winning score of 229 points. The Knights conquered France, who came in second with a score of 225 and Russia, took third with 192. The United Arab Emirates hosted the 2012 World Parachuting Championships for the first time in Dubai, the capital of sports in the Middle East, which lasted from Nov. 28 to Dec. 9. Fort Bragg Soldier Killed in Afghanistan

Staff Sgt. Schmidt died from injuries suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit.

Staff Sgt. Jonathan P. Schmidt of the 192nd Ordinance Battalion, 52nd Ordnance Group, 20th Support Command at Fort Bragg was killed in Afghanistan on Sept. 1. Schmidt was serving in Batur Village, Afghanistan while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. According to a report on NBC17.com Schmidt died from injuries sustained during an enemy attack on his unit.

From a small town in Montana to a small base in Afghanistan, Spc. Nathaniel Rose feels at home – to a degree – here in Afghanistan’s mountainous Ghazni Province. Attracted to the Army’s college and post-service employment opportunities, and its health care benefits, the lanky Montanan enlisted three years ago to become an unmanned aerial vehicle operator. Bugle Ceremony Shows Solidarity Between Fort Bragg Post and Community

Visit the Fayetteville Area Convention and Visitors Bureau located at 245 Person Street in Fayetteville on Friday, June 22 for the Fourth Friday kick-off event. Army Ground Forces Band trumpet player Staff Sgt. Frank T. Briscoe will be performing a bugle ceremony at 5:15 p.m. The Fayetteville Fire Department Honor Guard will be lowering the flag for the weekend as Briscoe plays "Retreat" and "To The Colors." The ceremony is timed to occur simultaneously with a similar ceremony at Fort Bragg and demonstrates solidarity between the post and the community. The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. The Department of Defense announced Monday that 20-year-old Spc. Samuel T. Watts of Wheaton, Ill., died May 19, in Bethesda, Md., of wounds sustained April 25 in Zharay when he was attacked with an enemy improvised explosive device. Watts was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division. Spc. Watts joined the Army July 2010 as an Infantryman and attended One-Station Unit Training and Airborne school at Fort Benning, Ga. He joined the 1-508th PIR in November 2010. New Warrior Transition Battalion, a place to heal

The beautiful new 250,000-square-foot complex is scheduled to open at the end of April

  Last Friday Fort Bragg leaders gave the media a tour of the new Warrior Transition Battalion complex and addressed recent issues about the unit in a press conference. The nearly completed Warrior Transition Battalion complex did not happen overnight as a result of recent scrutiny going on around the country. The plans came together back in 2007 after shameful conditions were revealed at Washington D.C.'s Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Currently at Fort Bragg there are almost 500 soldiers assigned to the Warrior Transition Battalion, many of whom live at home with their families, but others are scattered across the post. The new $88 million complex at Fort Bragg consists of 130 two bedroom suites for 260 soldiers. A new three story …
