Two Fort Stewart Soldiers Killed in Afghanistan

One soldier's wife learned of his death through a text message -- a violation of notification procedures that remains under investigation, according to a Fort Stewart spokesman.

Two Fort Stewart soldiers were killed in Afghanistan Feb. 23 when their unit came under small arms fire, according to a WSAV report. Sgt. Joshua A. Born, 25, of Niceville, Fla., and Cpl. Timothy J. Conrad Jr., 22, of Roanoke, Va., were killed. Both were assigned to the 385th Military Police Battalion, 16th Military Police Brigade (Airborne), an XVIII Airborne Corps unit based out of Fort Stewart, the report stated. According to the WSAV report, Born's wife, Megan, who lives in Illinois, found out about her husband's death from a text message before she was contacted through military channels. Warrior Transition Battalion Under Fire at Fort Drum

Survey revealed negative perceptions surround the WTB at other Army installations besides Fort Bragg

Fort Bragg's Warrior Transition Battalion (WTB) has recently been scrutinized for criticism about the care our wounded warriors are receiving, but it seems it is not only an isolated incident that our installation is facing. According to a Fayetteville Observer report by Greg Barnes, Fort Drum's Warrior Transition Battalion is also experiencing complaints about their program after a survey revealed deficiencies. According to the survey report, the battalion's staff indicated that less than 20 percent of Fort Drum units ever contacted wounded soldiers, and usually only when they tried to retrieve or account for equipment. Fort Bragg’s Army Community Service Family Advocacy Program hosted the very first Valentine’s Day Field Training Exercise (FTX) from 11am-1pm at the Fort Bragg Club. Taking place in the Lafayette Room, the Valentine’s Day FTX provided a fun way for soldiers and family members, couples and singles to connect and socialize during lunch. While melodic love songs played in the background, attendees were able to participate in competitions, have pictures taken, snack on candy, eat lunch, and mingle. Flower shop at Womack delivers hundreds of orders

Well wishes delivered for Valentine's Day for patients and employees

The small walk-in flower and gift shop within Womack Army Hospital is overflowing with buckets of colorful flowers. The cooler full of meticulously arranged flower arrangements have small envelopes attached to them and helium balloons cover the ceiling bearing sweet sentiments wait to be delivered. Over 100 hundred orders will be sent to loved ones throughout the day. Between Sunday night and Monday morning 11 new babies were born at Womack, and even more will be Valentine babies today. The manager, Marcella Swinbee has worked at Fort Bragg several years and has been at the Womack location for two years and she also oversees the South Post flower shop. "Seeing people happy makes this job fun," she said. "Flowers do that for people."

503rd MP Bn. Commences Mission Rehearsal Exercise

Training and readiness will be tested during the week long event

The 503rd MP Bn., a battalion in the 16th MP Brigade, headquartered at Fort Bragg, kicked off their week long mission rehearsal exercises (MRX) Monday simulating mission scenarios at the Mission Training Complex (MTC) on Fort Bragg.  Members of the 503rd MP Bn. are ramping up in preparation for a late spring deployment to Afghanistan. They must meet the objectives in the MRX to validate for the deployment and prove to the command team that they are mission ready. The 503rd MP Bn. is a subordinate battalion at Fort Bragg, but the majority of the 16th MP Brigade are not located here alongside the brigade headquarters.
