POLL: Stance on Berean Baptist Pastor's Anti-Gay Comment
Sean Harris has received national media attention over his comment from the pulpit, if you were a church member what would you do?
Local pastor, Sean Harris of Berean Baptist Church spoke from the pulpit this past Sunday on the North Carolina's proposed Amendment 1 from the support angle, which is not a surprise.
The surprise came when he commented to the congregation that if their child exhibits gay behaviors that as a parent they should "punch boys with limp wrists".
The vote on proposed Amendment 1 is less than one week away to determine if the state will make marriage between a man and a woman the only legally recognized domestic union in the state.
Wednesday Harris retracted his remarks and apologized on the church's website, but it is still the talk of the town.

Was anybody there to hear it? How did the congregation react?

If you visit Berean Baptist's website, you can watch the entire 54 minute sermon. I suggest doing so. I'm not from that congregation, and actually from Charlotte. The comment that was really made was more like "If you see your son wearing a dress, instead of telling him he's pretty and taking pictures, tell him that a dress is for girls....then maybe give him a little punch in the gut to toughen him (congregation laughs at joke)" After that joke, the pastor preached on loving homosexual people and not judging them, but to realize it was the congregation's duty to vote to uphold God's law. I believe the comment has been taken out of context to an extremity.

He said "once they drop that limp wrist, you crack it"! "give him a punch. You're not gonna act like that". Don't see how you can spin that for anymore than the horror it is. A pastor advocating violent child abuse against children who "act gay".

And congregation can be heard cheering these words. From a NC family with a couple of centuries history in the Bapt church, I have left it behind bc of this kind of thing.

I also listened to the 54 minute sermon and it was NOT a joke and it WAS condoning physical punishment to handle ANY homosexual tendencies in their children. If you have the same convictions then I say to you and him to MAN UP and accept whatever comes but stand by them don't go linking off into the corner saying "I was only joking". That isnt very manly behavior to display to your sons that you are a coward!

I listened to the entire sermon many times. After he stated the effeminent boys should after their wrists cracked and be punched, as the entire audience yelled amen and laughed. He went on to tell butch girls to be pretty and smell like a girl. He immediately followed this with some statement about loving them. Exactly as all child abusers and perpetrators of domestic violence do. They rationalize their abuse by saying but I love you. Children suffer from the physical abuse of child abusers but what damages them for life is the confusion of violence, pain and rejection being called love.

There is a similar situation that happened in Reidsville NC with a preacher by the name of Johnny Robertson. Robertson has a show on WGSR TV which is ran by a multiple convicted thief and Robertson broadcast on one of his shows the following:
Johnny Robertson said the following on one of his shows:
There was a day running around trying to find their identity the homosexual was kind of a person trying to find himself running around with the girls kind of acting like the girls although he’s a boy he’s acting like girls and acting like the girls but not fitting in. After all he’s a boy. He’s trying to do things the girls do and acting silly and the boys are calling him a sissy. And the girls know he’s not a girl but they kind of like the sensitive side of the man coming out. And wouldn’t it be nice if we were all this sensitive except for when we need a man and what have you got. Well you got a hypersensitive sissy that is running around with you and you don’t have a man.
Robertson. What difference does it make as long as they care for each other. You could keep making that argument until you could marry your dog
Robertson made remarks gays are loud, very aggressive very in your face shove it down your throat. Johnny said he investigated they can’t get along together. Don’t stay together for very long. Some have as many partners as 500. Homosexual community is unrestrained as anything on the planet.
