Sen. Kay Hagan Recognizes Fort Bragg Military Spouses

Civic leaders and fellow military spouse leadership from Fort Bragg honored local military spouses for their contributions to the community.

Today at the in Fayetteville, U. S. Senator Kay Hagan and representatives from the Community Blueprint Network, honored Military Spouse Appreciation Day.

First lady of Fayetteville Joan Chavonne introduced the speakers and lauded the military spouses in the room for their service and voluntarism.

"I am proud each and everyday of our military families, you are my inspiration, you are my heroes and I assure you, I will never stop working on your behalf," said Sen. Hagan. "Congratulations to our award winners and all the military spouses here today. Thank you and your husbands, or wives, for what you do for our country."

One military spouse honoree, Rebekah Sanderlin has been a longtime volunteer and advocate for military spouses in our community. Her musings on military life can be found on her blog, Operation Marriage.

"I'm very honored that Sen. Hagan recognized me, particularly on Military Spouses Appreciation Day. Military families have become so accustomed to making sacrifices during these war years that we sometimes forget that what we do is exceptional," said Sanderlin. "It's wonderful that Sen. Hagan chose to acknowledge that today."

Nancy St. Claire, the chief operating officer of the non-profit Give An Hour
organization, made remarks during the ceremony speaking about the Community Blueprint Network. The group has been meeting for over one year, every third Friday at the Partnership for Children, to advance the endeavors that benefit our military families and families.

Awardees included Teresa Sicinski, wife of the Fort Bragg garrison commander;
Eva Hansen, Partnership for Children of Cumberland County; Susan Reynolds,
Air Force spouse; Catherine Woyee-Jones, Hope Project founder; Rebekah
Sanderlin, editor, writer and Army spouse; and Malinda Cox, Lightning Friends and Family Memorial.
