Just over 500 volunteers showed up this morning with walking sticks, backpacks and hats to provide protection from the sun in order to assist the Fayetteville Police Department in their search for Pfc. Kelli Marie Bordeaux, missing since Saturday, April 14.

The volunteers were briefed by a police spokesman on how to canvas their assigned area as he gave out safety tips to be alert for snakes and to stay hydrated throughout the day. Groups searched the areas near Kelly-Springfield Tire company, down Ramsey street, in and around neighborhoods in dense woods and swampy areas.

"Kelli's family thanks all of you for coming out to help and they want you to know that," said the spokesman.

It was asked of the volunteers to refrain from taking photos if they happen upon anything they feel might be related to the search and to call the specified number for support first.

Mike Bordeaux, Kelli's husband, was on hand to partake in the search surrounded by friends for support as he shook hands with the crowd of well wishers and answered questions for the media.
