Paratrooper Found Dead Saturday in Afghanistan

Soldier was a member of the 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade

A soldier based at Fort Bragg died Saturday in Afghanistan after he was found unresponsive in his room, military officials said Monday. The military is investigating his death.

Staff Sgt. Keith Rudd, 36, of Winder, Ga., was a flight medic with Company C, 3rd Battalion, 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg. He died from wounds suffered during combat in Parvan according to the Defense Department.

Rudd joined the Army in 2003. This was his third deployment. He is survived by his father, who lives in Sunnyville, Calif.

Rudd's awards and decorations include three Air Medals, four Army Commendation Medals, six Army Achievement Medals, two Army Good Conduct Medals, the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghan Campaign Medal, the Iraqi Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, the Army Service Ribbon, two Overseas Service Ribbons, the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, the NATO Medal, the Combat Medic Badge and the Army Aviation Badge.
