18th Fires Brigade Commander Speaks Out on Death of 2 Soldiers in Fatal Car Accident

Two soldiers were killed in an automobile accident in Fayetteville approximately two miles from post, Thursday.

     Spc. Amber Bostian, 26, of Monticello, Ark., and Pfc. Michael Hickey, 25, of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., were killed in a two-car collision near the intersection of Yadkin Rd. and Cimarron Dr.

     “Losses like these are heartbreaking. The 18th Fires Brigade would like to express our deepest condolences to family and friends of our fallen troopers,” said Col. Robert D. Morschauser, commander, 18th Fires Brigade.

     Bostian enlisted in the Army in February 2011 as a Water Treatment Specialist. She attended Basic Combat Training at Fort Jackson, S.C., followed by Advanced Individual Training at Fort Lee, Va., before reporting to A Company, 188th Brigade Support Battalion in September 2011.

     Hickey enlisted in the Army in August 2010 as a Petroleum Heavy Equipment Operator.  He attended Basic Combat Training at Fort Jackson, S.C., followed by Advanced Individual Training at Fort Lee, Va., before reporting to A Company, 188th  Brigade Support Battalion in March 2011.

     Bostian and Hickey were both recipients of the National Defense Service medal, the Army Service Ribbon and the Global War on Terror medal.

     Hickey is survived by his mother, Kethalen Hickey of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., and Bostian is survived by her three children.

The incident is under investigation.
