Fort Bragg Soldier Found Unresponsive in Barracks

This is the second death of a soldier in two months that 3rd Brigade has suffered while in garrison. The death is under investigation.


An 82nd Airborne Division paratrooper was found unresponsive in his barracks room on Fort Bragg Saturday morning and later pronounced dead. The incident is under investigation, according to a media release from Fort Bragg Wednesday afternoon.

Spc. Robert P. Wasser, 21, of Marysville, Wash., was a military police
officer in Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3rd Brigade Special Troops
Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team.

"Spc. Wasser was a solid performer and considered a brother by the members
of his team; our military family will be deeply affected by his loss," said
Command Sgt. Maj. Matthew McCoy, of 3BSTB, 3BCT.

Wasser joined the Army in April 2010, attended Basic Combat Training and
Advanced Individual Training at Fort Leonardwood, Mo. He then completed the
U. S. Army Airborne School at Fort Benning, Ga., and was assigned to the
82nd Airborne Division in October 2010. Wasser deployed to Afghanistan in
support of Operation Enduring Freedom from June 2010 to September 2010.

His awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the NATO Medal, the Combat Action Badge and the Parachutist Badge.
