Weapon Used In Murder-Suicide, Linked to Fort Bragg Physician

The murder victim was found inside of her home on Wednesday.

Ballistic experts identify weapon used in homicide last week that killed 35-year old Shawna Givens, of 1645 Holloman Drive.

The murder weapon was determined to be the same gun used in a homicide-suicide in Voorhees, New Jersey according to Debbie Tanna, Public Information Officer.

Police there say on Wednesday, April 11, 2012, 39-year old Giocondo Navek, an attending physician at a Fort Bragg, shot a former colleague and then fled the scene of the crime. Navek was later pulled over in a traffic stop in New Jersey and he turned the gun on himself and died.

Givens, a civilian and mother of 3, was a medical support assistant. Navek, a soldier with the Army Reserve Medical Command, was a primary care physician on active duty at Fort Bragg for over a year. It is known that the pair had a romantic relationship.

Local detectives say Givens and Navek were friends and met at Womack Army Community Hospital.

Five hours after the murder-suicide, police in North Carolina went to Givens' home when she didn't show up for work and found she too had been shot to death.

It appears that Navek has a past history of violence according to an ABC news report that said back in March, another woman, described as Navek's fiancée, filed a police report indicating Navek fired two shots into a wall of a basement in a Williamstown home the couple shared.
