Mayor and Mrs. Tony Chavonne read to Fort Bragg children

The program Tell Me A Story took place at Throckmorton Library on Fort Bragg.

Sunday afternoon 80 Fort Bragg families showed up for the annual Tell Me A Story event. Mayor Tony and Mrs. Joanne Chavonne were the guest readers this year featuring the book 'Giraffes Can't Dance' by Giles Andreae.

Mayor Chavonne joked with the children that he is not one to dance and can relate to the giraffe which amused the parents. The children gathered around on the floor and listened to the story, along with the pages shown on the monitor.

Afterwards the families participated in a group discussion and made a giraffe art project to take home and had the chance to have their book signed. Each family received a copy of the book by Mayor Chavonne.

"I want to do the craft right now, said Faith, a third grader at Howard Hall Elementary School eagerly awaiting the start of the event. Faith and her family moved to Fort Bragg this past summer and have attended the TMAS events at previous posts.

The event was advertised through the Family Readiness Groups and reservatios were made in advance. The Tell Me A Story (TMAS) is an initiative created to empower military children by using literature and their own stories in a way that fosters skills for resilience, strong peer and parent connections, and a caring community.
